According to a study carried out online which surveyed more than a thousand American women aged between 18 and 94 years old,  some techniques are more effective than others for having a female orgasm.  Here are the main results from the study published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy!

Clitoris stimulation is essential

The study, which was led by researchers from Indiana University, in partnership with OMGYes, an interactive online learning tool about female pleasure, was first published in July 2017. The results are based on a survey conducted online in 2015 which collected views from 1,055 American women, mostly heterosexual (91%) and aged between 18 and 94 years old. At the time of the survey, more than half of the respondents were married.

The way of reaching an orgasm differed depending on the women:

  • 18.4% of women said that sexual intercourse was enough to stimulate an orgasm,
  • 36.6% of women said that they needed clitoris stimulation during sexual intercourse to reach an orgasm.
  • 36% said that they had the best orgasm when the clitoris was stimulated during sex.

About 72% of women found it easier to have an orgasm when the clitoris was stimulated during sex, which shows that vaginal orgasms are still very rare!

Clitoris : Women’s preferred stimulation techniques

Researchers wanted to find out the types of techniques used for women to have a clitoral orgasm. This time the results were gathered by 1,000 informal video chats via OMGYes between 2014 and 2015.

Here are some the questions that participants were asked:

  • What type of pressure do you prefer?
  • What type of movement do you prefer? (up and down, diagonal, circular etc.)
  • What exact zone in the vagina or clitoris is the most sensitive?
  • What type of contact to you prefer? (fingers, hands, mouth, etc.)

And here are the results

  • Two-thirds of women preferred direct stimulation of the clitoris during sex,
  • More than 50% preferred stimulation around the clitoris,
  • 63% of women preferred up and down movements,
  • 51% preferred circular movements,
  • 41% of women who preferred one type of stimulation rather than several,
  • More than 50% of women preferred a light to moderate pressure,
  • Only 16% said that they liked all types of pressure during stimulation.

These results confirm the uniqueness of every women and what they like during sexual relations.

Sexual preferences are different depending on the woman, even though some types of stimulation are more commonly enjoyed than others.  This is why it is important to communicate with your partner to tell them what you enjoy and likewise for your partner to tell you their preferences.
