A fever is one of the most common symptoms of flu or a gastrointestinal infection. It is a natural reaction of the body to stimulate the immune defenses.  However fevers can be dangerous if temperatures reaches more than 40 ° C which is why you shouldn’t neglect this symptom. Here are three natural remedies to help lower a fever.

1) Freshness to fight a fever

Above 40°C, a fever can pose a significant risk to your health.  In this situation you should contact an emergency doctor.  Children and the elderly are the most fragile so you should watch over their temperature even more.

In the case of a moderate fever (when the temperature is less than 40°) you should remember to regularly hydrate.  You should drink about 1.5 -2 litres of water per day.  You should also try and aerate the room and apply a moist face cloth on your forehead, face and neck several times per day.

Regularly hydrating is essential when lowering a fever and combating dehydration.

2) Sunflower infusion

A sunflower infusion is a natural remedy which is ideal for naturally lowering a fever.  Leave a handful of dried sunflower petals to infuse for 10 to 15 minutes in a pan half filled with water.  Then filter and drink up to 2 to 3 times per day.

Sunflowers have antinevralgic, diuretic, febrifuge, astringent and expectorant properties.  It is also effective at lowering LDL cholesterol and blood sugar levels.  However it is also good at treating respiratory system problems, fevers, sore heads and digestion difficulties.

You should consult your doctor before you offer a sunflower infusion to your child.

3) Homeopathy

Various homeopathic remedies may supplement the use of medications such as paracetamol in the case of a fever.  However you should take the advice of a doctor. Ferrum phosphoricum is recommended when the fever is due to an infection such as a cold. The homeopathic remedy Bryonia alba, which is obtained from white bryone roots, is effective in relieving fever and chills caused by influenza.

Ask your doctor for advice on dosages and contraindications, especially for children!
