An oral thrush infection is a common and non life-threatening fungal, yeast infection that can be quickly treated.  The organism lives in it’s natural state in the mucous membranes of our body.  When the candidiasis is a chronic condition the skin will turn a pale colour. Once you think you have oral thrush contact your doctor before trying some natural remedies alongside the medicine you’ve been prescribed.  Candida albicans, the micro-flora behind the infectioncan develop in moist and hot places in the body including the mouth and the vagina (vaginal thrush).  Here are 5 natural remedies that you can try to get rid of thrush.

1) Cinnamon yogurt

In a bowl mix together half a small tub of natural yogurt and half a teaspoon of cinnamon.  Apply this mixture onto the infected area and leave it it to dry naturally or eat it if the area affected is your mouth.  Repeat this procedure for 5 days before you go to bed at night .

2) Garlic water

Mix a clove of garlic into a glass of water, filter and drink.  The garlic has useful antiseptic properties which allows you to naturally treat oral thrush.

3) Calendula treatment

Ingredients :

  • 150 ml of almond oil
  • 1 teaspoon of Calendula petals
  • 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers
  • 10 drops of tea tree essential oil.

Infuse the calendula petals, chamomile flowers and almond oil in a glass bowl with an airtight lid for three weeks in a dry and cool environment, at room temperature.

After the three weeks are up, filter the mixture and add the drops of essential oils to it.  With the help of a cotton bud apply a small amount of this mixture onto the affected area.

4) Bicarbonate of soda

Add 3 small teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda to half a litre of water and apply this mixture two times a day to the affected area for two weeks.

5) Bay leave herbal infusion

Boil up 5 bay leaves in the equivalent of a mug of water for 5 minutes.  Then remove the bay leaves from the water.  Wait until the infusion cools and with the help of a piece of cotton apply a little onto the affected area every night for one week. .
