Although there are many different skin types, oily skin is one of the most fragile.  It is more likely to absorb impurities which is why it needs to be well taken care of.  Many people with oily skin lack confidence as they are embarrassed about their shiny forehead.  However if you have an oily complexion here are three great homemade masks that you can use to help to reduce any shiny foreheads.

1/ Soothing mask

  • 1 ripe banana;
  • 1 teaspoon of honey;
  • A few drops of lemon or orange juice.

After having mixed the different elements together apply the paste like mixture onto your face.  Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water with the help of a face cloth or a soft and absorbent cosmetic glove.

Once you have removed the mask you can finish this treatment with a moisturising cream  which is natural and not oily or you can simply use a floral water of your choice.

2/ Absorbing mask

  • 1 table spoon of green clay;
  • 1 teaspoon of apricot kernel oil or castor oil ;
  • 3 drop of palmarosa essential oil.

Mix the green clay with a little warm water until you have created a well incorporated mixture.  Add three drops of essential oil and then mix again.  Apply the paste onto your face and then leave for 10 minutes.  Now clean with hot face cloth or cosmetic glove.

You can then finish by applying a little lavender or rose water onto your face.

Side note:  Although green clay is recommended for problems with oily skin it should not be used pure.  You will risk damaging your skin by drying it out .  You should always combine clay with a vegetable oil.

3/ Fruit mask

  • Pear;
  • Lemon juice.

Cut a pear in two and then put the pear into a mixer and add the lemon juice and mix until your have got a paste like mixture.  Apply this preparation onto your clean face and then leave to react for about 15 minutes. Now rinse your face with cold water.

Lemon juice is ideal for eliminating excess sebum which is the cause of black heads or acne.  However if it is applied onto your face on its own it tends to irritate the skin.  Pears are softer and have astringent properties which are going to clean the skin deeply and reduce the production of sebaceous glands.

Side note:  Apply this mask at night before going to bed as you need to avoid using lemon on your skin before you go outside in the sun.  This can have a damaging effect on your skin and cause more freckles to appear.
