The menopause brings with it a multitude of symptoms, including hot flushes and debilitating weight gain. In order to limit the inconveniences, here are a few natural remedies that could help you face down this unique period.

Sage and soya for hot flushes

Hot flushes are certainly the most unpleasant symptoms linked to the menopause, and are the most common symptom among women entering the menopause. Although certain hormonal treatments can help relieve them, there are two natural solutions for combating hot flushes: sage and soya.

  • Sage is effective for reducing hot flushes. You can simply consume it three times a day in the form of dried leaves, a tincture or liquid extract.
  • Soya is equally powerful for reducing hot flushes. You can prepare it in a salad, or use soya flour in your cakes, for example. Soya, rich in oestrogens, helps re-establish hormonal equilibrium in the body.

Valerian and sweetclover to regulate sleep difficulties

The menopause often leads to sleep difficulties and even insomnia. Fortunately, valerian can help you to sleep much better. Known for its calming properties, this plant’s root, when consumed as a tea, reduces the stress, anxiety, depression and mental agitation which disturb your sleep.

You can also turn to sweetclover (especially if you are in the pre-menopausal period). Taken as a tea, this plant has soothing effects on the nerves. Sweetclover also has significant fatigue-fighting properties. In fact, combining it with rosemary and ginseng will have you back in form in no time!

During the menopause, weight gain is one of the main symptoms. It is therefore important to maintain regular physical activity and to eat a varied and balanced diet.

Red clover is noted for the isoflavones it contains. These proteins imitate the effects of oestrogen in the body. Clover can help balance good cholesterol and help lower bad (LDL) cholesterol.
