Having arrived on the market a number of years ago, electronic cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular among smokers. Less cumbersome than your classic packet of cigarettes, e-cigarettes have numerous other advantages that should be taken into account. So here are 6 things you need to know about e-cigarettes.

1. Smokers use e-cigarettes to help them stop smoking

E-cigarettes are one of the most popular methods among smokers for reducing or completely stopping their consumption of tobacco. Increasing numbers of people are giving up smoking, and the majority of them have used e-cigarettes to help them. Furthermore, asthmatics have noticed a reduction in pain in the respiratory passages due to the use of e-cigarettes.

2. Electronic cigarettes reduce passive smoking

As campaigns against passive smoking have been going strong in the past few years, to make people aware of the numerous problems it causes (particularly its link with various cancers), researchers and public authorities have naturally wondered whether vaping is harmful for people in the vicinity of the smoker. The good news is that passive vaping is far less harmful than passive smoking of cigarette smoke. In fact, e-cigarettes don’t contain carbon monoxide, one of the main substances contained in classic cigarettes, along with tar and nicotine.

3. No study has yet proven that e-liquids are dangerous

Several scientific studies have focused on the risks associated with the liquids contained in electronic cigarettes. The most recent one, carried out in the United States in 2017 on 800 types of e-cigarette, showed that the majority of them contain very little nicotine. The report noted that a smoker who replaces smoking with this alternative reduces their exposure to the numerous toxic and carcinogenic products contained in regular cigarettes.

E-cigarettes are essentially made up of propylene glycol, which contributes to the aromas. This substance is sometimes replaced by plant glycerine, used in numerous foodstuffs.

4. There are thousands of flavours available

Vanilla, mint or candy floss – the smell of cigarette smoke has radically changed in recent years! While tobacco tends to get into your clothes and fabrics, the vapour emitted by e-cigarettes evaporates in just a few seconds. Nowadays, with the extremely wide choice of flavours, there is something for everyone. They are divided into five broad categories: classic flavours, menthols, fruits, drinks or gourmet flavours.

5. The word “vape” is in the Oxford dictionary

“Vaping” is the word used to describe the act of smoking an e-cigarette. In fact, the first users wanted to distinguish themselves from smokers, by using a specific word. The Oxford Dictionary even named “vape” as its word of the year in 2014!

6. E-cigarette events are organised worldwide

Nowadays, there is no shame in vaping – quite the opposite in fact: the more original your e-cigarette, the better. There are even worldwide events (such as professional salons) in which members of the vaping community gather to exchange their passion for customising e-cigarettes. E-cigarettes have in fact over the years become fashion accessories that people are proud to show off.
