If you notice a red coloured mark on the surface of the skin, it could be a cherry angioma, a benign tumour which shows up a red colour due to the collection of small blood vessels inside it. These marks appear most often on the torso and the thighs, but also on the face, neck, scalp and arms. So what natural remedies can be used to eliminate cherry angiomas?

Cherry angiomas: what not to do

Certain angiomas can reach up to 6 mm in size, and take the shape of a dome or a mushroom. Painless and with no risk to your health, cherry angiomas are often unwanted due to their aesthetic aspect, which can drive people to wanting to get rid of them for themselves.

Make sure not to scratch, squeeze or pierce cherry angiomas, as they can bleed profusely and become infected.

Here are the cases in which it is recommended that you consult a doctor or a dermatologist:

  • pain
  • excessive bleeding
  • a change in the appearance of the angioma

Cherry angiomas: 3 natural remedies

There are at least three natural remedies for eliminating cherry angiomas in painless and risk-free ways.

1) Iodine

According to several studies, iodine improves the appearance of the skin. Increase your daily consumption of foods rich in iodine. This nutrient helps the body eliminate toxins and boosts the production of new cells in the body, which allows it to effectively combat the angioma.

Table salt is the foodstuff highest in iodine, with 380 μg of iodine in 6 g of salt. Next comes cooked cod and haddock, with 116 μg per 100 g. Cottage cheese, soya beans, natural yoghurt, whole milk, bread and eggs also contain iodine.

You can also apply a little iodised salt directly to the skin, once a day for one to two weeks. However, be sure to apply the foodstuff (especially salt) only to the angioma, as it can dry out the skin.

2) Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a natural substance obtained from fermenting apples. The acetic acid in vinegar has curative properties which help naturally eliminate cherry angiomas.

With some cotton wool or a cotton cloth, apply a little apple cider vinegar to the cherry angioma. Hold it in place for 20 to 30 minutes every day. After one to two weeks, the size of the angioma should reduce and eventually disappear.

3) Tea tree essential oil

The medicinal properties of tea tree oil are well known nowadays. It is a highly effective natural antibacterial which can “dry out” and eliminate cherry angiomas. After having washed your hands, mix 1 drop of tea tree essential oil with 2 drops of olive oil in the palm of your hand, and apply it to the angioma with your finger. Leave it to dry and repeat once or twice a day, until the angioma disappears.
