Acne is very often linked to an unbalanced diet rich in sugar and/or fat, but other types of more surprising foods can also be the cause. Some sea foods, for example, can encourage acne spots to develop for some people. Test out which foods you should avoid to improve your skin’s complexion.
1) Some types of seafood
Sea foods rich in iodine, can be the cause of acne outbreaks for some people. When iodine enters into the body and the blood stream, the surplus iodine is excreted by the sebaceous glands which causes irritation and acne spots.
Some sea foods that should be avoided are calamari, crab, sole, clam, prawns, lobster, oysters…
2) Dairy products
Dairy products rich in fats are often the cause of acne:
- Cheddar cheese, pasteurized and non pasteurized cheese,
- Full fat or semi-skimmed milk,
- Yogurts, ice cream,
- Products containing milk and other dairy product.
3) Fatty meats
Some types of meat are fattier than others and therefore should be avoided or eaten in small quantities:
4) Sugary products
Many food products are naturally sugary. Try to limit the amount of sugary foods that you eat:
- Sugary cereals (chocolate coated puffed corn, cereal bars.)
- Biscuits, cakes, sweets and ice creams,
- Sugary drinks, fizzy or not,
- Sugary fruit juices,
- Sauces, (like ketchup)
5) Salted products
- Salted snacks,
- Industrial processed foods, frozen or fresh,
- Chips, burgers, pizzas,
Several days after having drastically reduced eating these products and foods, you should notice a difference in your skin and your acne spots should start to disappear!
