Organic shampoos are effective but they can be a little pricey. If you have any hair problems -fine, limp, greasy, brittle or dry hair -and you’ve tried out all the commercial products you can get your hands on to no avail, here are 3 recipes for natural shampoos that you can easily make at home. When you start using natural shampoos, your hair will be a little more oily for a little while. Give your hair the time to get used to the products and they will start to take effect. So now, aprons at the ready!

Natural shampoo with vinegar and baking soda

bicarbonate de soude

Ingredients and Method

  • 1 dessertspoon of baking soda, also called bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/4 glass of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 glasses of water
  • Two empty plastic or glass bottles

Put a dessertspoon of baking soda into a glass of lukewarm water and fill this mixture into one of the bottles. The greasier your hair is, the more baking soda you should add.

Next mix the apple cider vinegar with a glass of water and pour it into the second bottle. By contrast, for drier hair, add more vinegar.

Directions for use

  • Apply the baking soda mix to damp hair and massage gently into your scalp.
  • Rinse with water. If your hair is a little rough, that’s normal -the vinegar will re-balance the pH.
  • Next apply the vinegar mix, which works as a conditioner, and rinse it out.

You can add fragrance to your shampoo with essential oils. For example, tea tree oil treats dandruff and rosemary essential oil prevents your hair from falling out.
