Cold sores are most often caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1. Although they are painful and contagious, cold sores are benign and can be cured quickly. Fatigue, stress and cold can be triggers. Here are 3 natural remedies for treating cold sores.
1) Bicarbonate of soda natural remedy
Carefully wash your hands and moisten the affected area.
Apply a little bicarbonate of soda to the damp cold sore to form a paste. Leave it to work for 10 minutes and rinse it with water. Leave it to dry naturally, because towels carry bacteria.
Repeat 3 times a day.
2) Natural lemon juice remedy
Wash your hands. Squeeze a half a lemon and soak a sterile compress in the juice. Apply the compress to the cold sore.
Apply the lemon juice 3 times a day until the cold sore disappears.
3) Natural remedy using Niaouli essential oil
Wash your hands. Place 3 drops of Niaouli essential oil on a sterile compress, and apply it to the cold sore for a few minutes, allowing the active ingredients in the oil to work.
Repeat until the cold sore has completely disappeared.
Why are these natural remedies effective for fighting cold sores?
Bicarbonate of soda, lemon and Niaouli essential oil all contain anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Niaouli essential oil is also well known for promoting skin cell regeneration.
Be aware that cold sores are highly contagious, and avoid oral contact with others (kissing, etc.), especially with children, old people or people with lowered immunity. Remember to regularly wash your hands, especially before and after applying treatments or creams. Throw out the used compresses immediately.
If the cold sore does not disappear after 4 or 5 days of using one of these natural remedies on a daily basis, consult your doctor.
